Even changing map when I'm setting game up causes crash. I got crash / black screen immediately when I press LAUNCH button. Honestly, for me that isn't such a big deal, because game actually "remembered" changes I've done there (resolution, graphics detail)!īut, big issue is trying to play INSTANT ACTION (multiplayer section, single player - no missions). However, changing settings in the graphics menu causes crash. Now, far as I can tell I can play missions, no problems with textures, grid, models etc. I've installed game, than applied 1.2 and 1.3 patches and than Elisha's fix and even fix update.

Secondly, I'd like to report issue myself. Install armada on windows 7 Patch to 1.2 go to armada Dir C:/program files/activistion/star trek - armada right click on armada. The game has been abandonware for many years now and is very incompatible with modern computers. You might remember playing the game years ago as a child or teenager. By each game you install having its own virtual C: drive, they never conflict with one another.First of all, thank you Elisha ( for effort regarding playing Star Trek Armada 1 on modern systems! After all this time, I believe many people still want to play this 20-year old game, even on Win10! In my opinion, far better game than its sequel (Star Trek Armada 2). Star Trek: Armada is an Activision strategy game published in 2000 and set in the Star-Trek universe. This is really helpful because older games sometimes used DLLs that could conflict with others and cause problems. The best thing is that it will let you have a separate virtual C: drive for each game you install. Ones that run without any special configuration are often no on the list. If the game you want to install isn't listed, you use the link at the bottom to "install a non-listed program". For games that have problems with the WINE defaults, the PlayOnLinux helps with their configuration. The PlayOnLinux package for UBUNTU is a great help.

It actually runs much better using WINE under UBUNTU-MATE than it does on Windows 10 on the same machine. I'm a huge fan of the old Star Trek Armada II game, which runs great on Ubuntu using WINE. While you can get Star Trek Armada 2 to run on Windows 7 with fairly minor adjustments, you might still have problems with your graphics and you wont be able to connect in multiplayer mode. Using the WINE facility works much better than VirtualBox, especially for older games written for WinXP and earlier. The game moves at a pace that is both slow and fast alike. A friend asked me for advice on this after reading this post. Also, if you play a multi-player game over the Internet, each player can choose his or her own race and go at it in an all out war mode Star Trek: Armada has many different ways to play the game and based on the gameplay options alone, offers fans a good experience. This is an older question, but I'm adding a comment for others that are looking for help. If there's a right place to ask this whether StackExchange sites or any other site let me know.Ĭheers and I hope those in the same position find a middle ground. I'm aware of the linux client, but most of those games won't work.

I'm merely trying to come back to linux, yet I'm a PC gamer so I can't throw away Steam. I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask. Mouse and Keyboard integration, I'll be honest, sometimes the mouse integration in Virtual Box is a bit frustrating, mouse cursor disappears, etc.

I've never been clear on this but, even if I install the correct drivers on the windows box, will it matter? At least on this part, I'm just curious how it offload. What I want to know, from those who have tried or seen it: Look for a file called, fsensor.odf in the odfstations folder wherever you installed Armada 2 (default is C:Program FilesActivisionStar Trek Armada IIodfstations). I want to have my main machine with linux, and install windows on a virtual box. Aside from that I sometimes just want to relax and enjoy a game (Battlefield 3, Skyrim, Saints Row: The Third, etc) after hours of research and development. I have a virtual box with Ubuntu set up for development.
